paragon in RA?
So. I quit playing GW >1 yr ago, but for some reason I find myself irresistably drawn to playing RA for 20 min or so per day. Out of boredom, I decided to try and play a Paragon. I know they are rarely seen in RA, I've tried every other non-ranger profession and don't really like them (except for a spear-chucking Rit!). Since I grew up in PvE as a ranger 4 years ago, the majority of PvP experience I have is as a condition-spreading ranger/interrupter. With that in mind, I tried to create a similar-minded Paragon as follows:
Spear Mastery 12+2+1
Leadership 11+1
Wilderness Survival 3 (? can't recall - but whatever the rest amounts to)
Sup vigor, attunement/radiant
Poisonous, +30 spear
Zealous, +30 spear
+30 shield of whatever (only get 8 armor since req aren't met)
Apply Poison
Focused Anger (e)
Barbed Spear
Blazing Spear
Maiming Spear
Wild Throw
Leader's Comfort
Res Sig
Condition spam, switch to zealous to get e-up for reapply poison
So far, my paragon seems to be the only one standing at the end of a fight, much like when I play ranger. Don't know if it's the 80 armor, or just that most think Paragons are ineffective so therefore a low-priority target, or the 560+ health? Anyway, kind of fun to play and I like the paragon animation. Any suggested revisions or should I just stop playing?

Best Paras I've seen in RA have used their profession to get Daze on targets, cond spreading is cool, but daze (covered) is more devastating.
They have a lot of skills that apply it, but the most effective build I've seen and tried out for myself was P/Mo using Signet of Judgment + Awe with 14 in leadership and silencing spear mod. Cover it with bleeding, cripple and occasional fire with a deep wound to finish off.
I like the P/A builds I've seen but they rely on one or two certain spear attacks to apply the daze, and they are more likely to be blocked or miss.

The best one ive seen:
Spear Swipe
Cant Touch This
Soldier's Fury
Barbed Spear
Maiming Spear
Conjure Lightning
I cant remember if it was vicious, or merciless in the last slot.
Decent DPS, daze for the monks, could swap targets with ease, could slow down kiters with cripple in offence, or attackers in defence, daze for monks, which was easily immediately coverable by bleeding + cripple, and could then cover the 2 more important conditions.
Attack - Run Up - Spear Swipe - Barbed - Maiming - Barbed - Win!
Resurrection Signet

Yeah it's the run up + Spear swipe that can be a problem. A lot of casters in RA bring anti-melee, and a Paragon with a spear closing to melee range is a big giveaway that you're about to swipe them.
Plus you have no IMS in that build, hence why a P/A is better when using spear swipe, you S.step in, swipe+cover.
I also found spamming either swipe or Awe plus energy costing KD skill to be too intense on your energy pool with only getting +4 eng on party wide shouts, which I just noticed you have none of anyway in your build. So E-management is an issue too.
Stunning spear is nice, but has dodge + blocking problems and a high add. cost. Best leave that skill for W/P spearchuckers.
I tried a Wastrels Collapse + Awe and Deaths Charge + swipe combo together, and while it is funny to daze 2 people at once, it's just too energy intensive. That's why I prefer the sig for a KD, you only need 10 energy to get Daze + cover on a caster then.
I used to use conjure lightning, lightning spear and Soldiers fury, but stopped once they nerfed Fury. I'm not wasting an elite slot, a 2nd skill for perma shout on me and -20 armour just to have +33% IAS and some addr. gain.

Personally whenever i played paragon in RA i used the so called Empathyc build..with some changes....it's not meant to be offensive, but to help other classes to survive!
Emapthyc Removal (Elite, no attribute monk)
Synergy signet
Spear swipe
Holy Spear (in case of spirits/minions)
Blazing Spear
Mercyless Spear
Burning Shield (generally i use it to res in case of some d-shot spammer and some kd like backbreaker/devastating hammer)
Res Signet
Also tried one with Meladru's Resilience, but in some case it's totally useless...

Melandrus was cool when agg. refrain gave you cracked armour, I ran it myself with wearing spear, but since the nerf, I've stopped using it.

Remember to Kite and dodge arrows and spells focus mainly on casters (not the monk) theyre often more fragile and are killed easily just give them a DW and quickly spike the target till it drops thats how I play a Paragon in Random Arenas

You should try to focus on 1 thing rather then a dozen ... your either specced to kill the monk (dazed cripple etc) or the casters / rest (DW,DoT's etc) Don't try to give the Monk DW they just easily remove it and give them healing in return / You only have 8 Skills (1 thats allready taken res signet) so choose carefully

Once in RA i ran sort of a twist on the oldschool gale axe. Basically took gale and did a cruel spear spike suped up with conjure lightning. If they used balance stance i just fired a wild throw at them and bounced them like a B-Ball. Swapped in Sig of Judgement and Coward! for a few rounds too. Always forgot to put Awe in there though... that would have kicked ass...

I play a lot of paragon in RA, best build by far, try it!
Spear MAstery 9+3 = 12 sure
LeadShip x+x = 10 i think
Beast Mastery 11=11 sure!
Command x+1= 7 i think
Strike as One Elite
Brutal Strike
Mercile Spear
Go for the eyes
Agressive Refrain
ress pet skill
carry pet skill
res signet
People usually do a lot of curse when they see me in their teams, but after some victorys they always ask the build.
recomendations:
1- Use an Zealous Spear
2- Cast agressive refrain close to the enemys then attack someone with Strike as One, since it is an shout, it will recharge the agressive refrain. With strika as one and Go for the Eyes hardly u will losse the refrain
3- Always lock ur pet after swaping targets, especially after using Strike as One, its anoying but u get used, else the pet will teleport and run back to the last target.
4- Watch ur energy, if u have plenty, spam brutal strike, big damage and low recharge. When the enemy drop 50%, Merciless spear + brutal strike = BOOOMM!!!!!
Thats it! the build is hella cool. Criple is the FTW conditions. U will rarely miss an spear in a criple target. Try to put pressure atacking casters without many blocks. Its hards to the enemys run away beacuse the criple and the tele pet. And u can do some nice spikes swaping to low hp targets with strike as one then combo mercilles + brutal.
Thats all! good lucky
